Alternative Spring Break
So what is Alternative Break? Well, in short, it's a program that is put on through the LIVE office here at UAF in which a group of students go and volunteer during spring break. They raise money throughout the school year by doing different fundraisers. I thought I would write about Alternative Spring Break because I am attending a dinner & movie fundraiser they are holding this evening and felt like a lot of people don't know about the program. They hold these fundraisers to raise money to travel to another community to do hands-on volunteer work. This year they are going to Destin, FL to help with a Gulf Coast Restoration Project. Some of the other sites from past Alternative Spring Breaks have been Moab, UT, Arctic Village, AK, El Salvador, Washington D.C., and New Orleans. Any student is eligible to apply, but should know that there is an application process that requires an interview and not everyone who applies is selected. I personally know several people who are involved with Alternative Spring break and who have been on previous trips and they have nothing but positive things to say about their experiences with the LIVE office and the Alternative Spring Break team.
